Zhang Yu, Founder of Beijing Soil Ark Eco-tech, a serial entrepreneur, and a tech investor with eight years of expertise in microalgae technology. He specializes in soil remediation, carbon sequestration, and the development of international environmental standards.
Zhang pioneered the world’s first microalgae-based methodology for methane reduction in rice paddies. This methodology has met regional carbon neutrality standards and is currently undergoing certification for national CCER and international VCS. As a co-founder of China’s first Microalgae Synthetic Biology Research Institute, he leads an elite team that has screened 300+ functional algae strains from 14 major soil types to tackle salinity and heavy metal contamination.
Leveraging experimental data from tens of thousands of hectares across diverse phenological zones, he successfully integrated carbon trading into soil remediation to achieve a closed-loop business model. In 2023, he was invited to COP28 in Dubai to launch this global methane reduction technology.
