Mr. Yonten Gyamtsho has served as Director of the Department of Agriculture since November 2021, providing strategic leadership for Bhutan’s agricultural research, extension, and development programs to strengthen rural livelihoods and resilient agri-food systems. With over two decades of experience, he has held senior roles across agricultural research, extension, marketing, and cooperative development. Previously, he served as Chief Marketing Officer at the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives and as Counsellor (Trade) at the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Dhaka, supporting regional agricultural trade. His work focuses on market development, farmer capacity building, and sustainable agricultural transformation. He holds an MSc in Plant Biotechnology from Imperial College London and a BSc in Agriculture from Marathwada Agriculture University.
