As Director General of ADB’s Sectors Department 2, Winfried Wicklein leads the Asian Development Bank’s operations across three sector groups operating across Asia and the Pacific: Agriculture, Food, Nature, and Rural Development; Water and Urban Development; and Digital. The department’s active portfolio encompasses about 280 projects worth US$30 billion, managed by 300 staff.
Over 26 years with ADB, Winfried has built experience across country strategies and programs, sector strategies, infrastructure finance, and private sector mobilization across Asia and the Pacific. Prior to this role, he served as Director General for Southeast Asia. Earlier positions include Deputy Director General for Southeast Asia, Country Director for Indonesia, and Country Director for Myanmar, with earlier postings in Thailand, Australia, and the Philippines.
Before ADB, Winfried worked in corporate finance and investment banking advisory at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and earlier with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
An Austrian national, Winfried holds an MBA from the University of Münster, Germany
