Dr. Waleed Hassan Abouelhassan is a water resources management specialist with more than 25 years of international experience across the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia. His work focuses on integrated water resources management, irrigation infrastructure development and modernization, water resources modelling, water accounting, and improving water productivity to support climate-resilient and sustainable agrifood systems. 

 Throughout his career, he has worked closely with governments and international development partners on large-scale programmes addressing water scarcity, irrigation system rehabilitation, groundwater management, and climate-resilient agriculture. He has extensive experience in irrigation modernization, including the integration of renewable energy solutions such as solar-powered irrigation systems, as well as improved irrigation practices such as rice water management techniques to enhance water productivity and reduce water losses. His work has involved collaboration with major development partners including the World Bank, IFAD, JICA, KfW, SIDA, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). 

 Dr. Abouelhassan holds two PhD degrees in water management from Egypt and Japan and completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He serves as a reviewer for several international scientific journals and as a college reviewer for the United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI). He is also an active member of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID).
