Vikas Rajoria

Additional Project Director and Project Administrator, Mohanpura–Kundalia Project Management Unit, Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh
India

Vikas Rajoria serves as the Additional Project Director and Project Administrator at the Mohanpura–Kundalia Project Management Unit in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, India. With over two decades of experience in the Water Resources Department of Madhya Pradesh, he has built a reputation as a result-oriented officer with extensive field experience in irrigation planning, river basin management, and water use efficiency. Between 2015 and 2018, he played a key role in the conceptualization and planning of Madhya Pradesh’s first pressurized piped irrigation initiatives, the pioneering Mohanpura–Kundalia Irrigation Projects, marking the state’s transition from conventional canal irrigation systems.

From 2018 to 2024, he led the implementation of the Mohanpura–Kundalia Irrigation Projects, now recognized as the world’s largest contiguous pressurized piped irrigation network, covering about 290,000 hectares and setting a new global benchmark for irrigation efficiency.

He authored a research paper based on the implementation of the Mohanpura–Kundalia projects and the data generated during their execution. In this work, he documented the significant efficiency gains achieved by transitioning from conventional canal-based irrigation systems to pressurized reservoir-to-farm irrigation networks, demonstrating an increase in overall water use efficiency from 38 percent to 80 percent. The findings also contributed to policy level shifts at the national level and provided impetus for the development of similar projects across the country.

Mr. Rajoria also co-authored the peer reviewed Sindh and Chambal River Basin Plans in collaboration with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Netherlands, focusing on improving basin level water use efficiency.

He has received several honors and awards, including the Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Department Excellence Award for innovation and outstanding performance at the regional level in 2012 and at the state level in 2024.
