Mr Vijay Iyengar is the founder and chairman of Agrocorp International, a commodity trading powerhouse specialising in the sale of staple food products such as wheat, pulses and sugar to leading food manufacturers in the Asia Pacific and Middle Eastern regions.
Headquartered in Singapore, Agrocorp started trading agri-commodities in 1990 and has since grown to achieve over USD 3 billion in turnover, handling more than 30 agri-commodity products across 50 countries. Agrocorp is also one of the leading traders of pulses in the world and operates plants in Australia, Canada and the United States, and soon in Malaysia, that process pulses into value-added products like protein and starches.
The company has launched its plant-based ingredients business and plant-based food brand, HerbYvore, all part of its vision to better nourish a changing world through responsible and sustainable sourcing and food production. In recognition of Vijay's leadership and vision that has propelled the growth and successes of the company as a family business, Agrocorp is the recipient of the 2022 EY Family Business Excellence Award.
Vijay is currently serving as the President of the Global Pulse Confederation (GPC), a non-profit organization recognised in Dubai and the US that represents all segments of the pulse industry value chain from growers, logistics suppliers, traders, exporters and importers to government bodies, processors, and consumers.
Vijay holds a bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and an MBA from Cornell University. He is an Emeritus Chairman of Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and former Vice Chairman of Singapore Business Federation. He has also served as a Director of The Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA), London from 2019 to 2022. In March 2022, he was conferred the Distinguished alumni award by IIT Bombay. In 2024, at the Centennial celebration of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vijay was presented the Exemplary Service Award for his contribution.
