Dr. Ioannis E. (Yannis) Tzanetakis is a plant virologist working on agricultural biosecurity and clean plant systems.His work integrates advanced diagnostics, virus epidemiology and certification systems to safeguard specialty crops and strengthen resilient food production systems. As Director of the Arkansas Clean Plant Center, he leads interdisciplinary programs that ensure the distribution of pathogen-tested planting material, directly supporting sustainable intensification, trade security, and climate-adaptive agriculture.
His contributions to plant pathology have been widely recognized, including his election as a Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society (APS), the APS Lee M. Hutchins Award for his works on fruit viruses, and the APS Schroth Faces of the Future Award. He is also the recipient of the John W. White Award for Outstanding Research and the Outstanding Faculty Award from the University of Arkansas.
