Hester Biemans

Prof. Dr. Hester Biemans is expert on global water resources and food security. She is Special Professor Water and Crop Production at Wageningen University & Research and Senior Researcher in the team Water and Food at Wageningen Environmental Research. Professor Biemans has done extensive work on how human interventions and climate change affect global water resources and agriculture and how food systems can adapt to it. Currently, most of her research focusses on Asia. She received a prestigious ERC Research Grant to work on the impact of melting glaciers and snowpacks in the High Mountains of Asia on irrigated crop production in the downstream plains. The knowledge is made available to ADB and its DMCs through the 3Pole4Food (Third Pole-for-Food) project, the knowledge component of the Resilient River Basin Initiative.
