Alexia Michels has about 25 years of experience in integrated water management, covering rural and urban water supply, sanitation, irrigation, flood resilience, and climate adaptation across Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa.
She has been with the ADB since 2022, currently based in New Delhi, India, where she leads projects in irrigation, flood control, coastal resilience, and other water-related areas within the Agriculture, Food, Nature & Rural Development (AFNR) sector.
Previously, Alexia served as Country Director for the NGO Water & Life in the Philippines and Bangladesh, overseeing water supply, sanitation, and solid waste management initiatives in urban slum communities, while managing local operations and key partnerships.
Her career also includes key roles in the private sector, with SUEZ, where she served as an international water resources specialist, and earlier with BURGEAP, a French consulting firm, where she led Environmental Impact Assessments and water resources management projects across both rural and urban settings.
