Hon. Abunawas Maslamama is the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA). Appointed in April 2025, he previously served as the BARMM’sSenior Minister and held key positions including Deputy Minister of the Interior and Local Government and Deputy Minister for Transportation and Communications. He is also a former peacebuilding leader, having served as C-Chair of the Joint Peace and Security Committee (JPSC) and a member of the GRP-MILF Independent Commission on Policing.
As MAFAR Minister, he leads the region’s efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity, fisheries development, and agrarian reform services. His leadership includes advancing major partnership such as the FAO-Japan fisheries project to enhance sustainable fisheries in the region. He is also advancing Halal industry development by forging international partnerships (e.g a benchmarking mission in Dubai with the Prime Group). Hon Maslamama emphasizes good governance, accountability, and institutional strengthening; in recent Expanded Management meeting, he spoke about leveraging synergy across the ministry to drive meaningful change for Bangsamoro farmers, fisherfolk, and agrarian reform beneficiaries.
