Technology/ Innovation: Helping 100,000 Filipino farmers become sustainable and debt-free by 2030

Rural Rising Philippines (RuRi) is an organic, grassroots effort to help distressed Filipino farmers get back on their feet so they can once again feed the nation with pride. It was accidentally created in 2020 when an online post about produce being given away for free at the Baguio City public market went viral. Its mission is to rescue surplus produce through an intervention called Rescue Buy™, paying farmers twice the farmgate price and allowing consumers to buy at half the supermarket price -- or to donate to community pantries or kitchens, and animal rescue shelters. RuRi has 50,000 members and 300,000 followers, collectively rescuing close to 5 Million kilos of fruits and vegetables that would have otherwise been thrown away, directly working with 4,500 farmers, and impacting 63,000 families across 39 Philippine provinces. The conversations and stories at RuRi are led and written by spouses Ace and Andie Estrada.
