Professor Michael Kremer is a recipient of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his experimental approach to alleviating global poverty. He is an Economics Professor at the University of Chicago, where he directs the Development Innovation Lab (DIL), which develops and scales innovations with the potential to reach over 100 million people in low- and middle-income countries across agriculture, education, water treatment, road safety, and microfinance.
His work consistently bridges research and real-world impact. He helped design an Advance Market Commitment for a pneumococcal vaccine, resulting in three approved vaccines rolled out across 60 countries and an estimated 700,000 lives saved. His deworming research informs India's national program, reaching 275 million children annually, and his water safety work reaches 9 million people through Evidence Action. He is also co-founder of Precision Development, co-director of the Human-Centered Weather Forecasts initiative, and Scientific Director of the DIV Fund.
