Dr. Khamphou Phouyyavong is a Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) of Lao PDR, bringing more than two decades of experience in agricultural policy, rural development, and food systems research.
Throughout his career, Dr. Khamphou has held senior leadership and research positions across key national institutions, including the National Assembly of Lao PDR and the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI). His work has focused on strengthening evidence-based policymaking, agricultural economic analysis, and strategies to promote sustainable and inclusive rural development. He has played an important role in the formulation of national policies and strategies related to agriculture development, food and nutrition security, and rural livelihoods.
Dr. Khamphou has also contributed extensively to research on smallholder farming systems, crop–livestock integration, and agricultural innovation. He actively collaborates with government agencies, research institutions, and international development partners, supporting initiatives that advance resilient, sustainable, and nutrition-sensitive agrifood systems in Laos.
